MUSEUM OF SACRED ART OF TAVARNELLE VAL DI PESA
This noteworthy museum is part of the museum network of the Florentine Chianti and Valdarno area.
The Museum of Sacred Art of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa is located in the rooms on the second floor of the rectory next to the church of San Pietro in Bossolo. The collection was created in 1989 with pieces from churches of the area, in particular from the churches of Santa Lucia al Borghetto, San Lorenzo in Vigliano, Santa Maria al Morrocco, as well as from the Church of San Pietro in Bossolo. The museum consists, primarily, of paintings from the 13th-18th centuries, liturgical objects, and a small collection of votive offerings.
The oldest painting in the collection dates back to the second half of the 13th century: a Madonna with child attributed to Meliore di Jacopo. Two astylar crosses also date back to the 13th century.
On the ground floor there is a small exhibition of the so-called ricamo di Tavarnelle, a particular stiff lace embroidery invented by a nun at the beginning of the 20th century and perfected by the local women.
