PALAZZO DEL FASCIO
The building was constructed in the 1920s on land donated by the Torrigiani family, important land-owners in the area. On October 29, 1929 it was inaugurated as Casa del Fascio, or the local headquarters for the Fascist party.
During the Second World War the offices of the Municipality (established in 1893) were set on fire and all the documentation concerning the town was lost. The Palazzo del Fascio was remodeled to house the municipal offices and on March 7, 1945 the town government began operation in its new surroundings. Starting in 1946 the building was state property and it housed schools, municipal offices, and associations. Currently it houses the Municipal Council’s meeting hall.
From an architectural point of view, the building is an interesting example of neo-medieval style, despite its remodeling. It has a rectangular plan and is characterized by a corner tower which was in the past surrounded by a balcony. An additional section of the building to the side previously included a loggia on the second floor which has now been enclosed by windows.
Its ownership having been returned to the Municipality in 2021, renovation work began immediately to restore its significance and to use this important public space more effectively and attractively.
